3 days / 2 nights in a mountain hut
Description
“What I love about this trip is that, in just three days, the scenery changes completely. We set off from the valley, then gradually make our way into the Vanoise: the forests give way to mountain pastures, glaciers come into view, and the mountain huts become our base camp for the night. ” — Louis, your mountain guide
I invite you to join me for a three-day trek to explore the Mont Pourri massif and the Vanoise National Park.
The idea isn’t to rack up the kilometres. We’ll take our time walking, observing, enjoying the scenery and sharing the experience with the group. The route is alpine and requires a good level of fitness, but what I’d most like you to discover is the diversity of the landscapes we’ll be passing through.
Over the course of the three days, we’ll move from high-altitude forests to mountain pastures, then on to rocky and glacial landscapes. We’ll be staying in two mountain huts, where the mountain atmosphere is an integral part of the journey.
47.5 km, around 3,000 metres of elevation gain and three days to experience the mountains from the inside.
Programme
Day 1
From Les Arcs 1600 to the Mont Pourri mountain hut
12.5 km · +975 m / -240 m
We meet up in Bourg-Saint-Maurice before heading to Les Arcs 1600, the starting point of our trek.
The landscape changes quickly. We leave the resort behind and head into the wide open spaces of the Vanoise National Park. The walk gradually takes us to the Mont Pourri mountain hut, where we spend our first night.
Overnight stay at the Mont Pourri mountain hut.
Day 2
From the Mont Pourri mountain hut to the Martin mountain hut
15 km · +1,000 m / -1,200 m
It’s a wonderful day spent immersed in the mountains.
We make our way through mountain pastures and high-altitude forests, with the Vanoise glaciers gradually coming into view all around us. The terrain becomes more alpine and the landscapes change as the day goes on.
At the end of the stage, we reach the Refuge de la Martin for another evening in the mountains.
Overnight at the Refuge de la Martin.
Day 3
Return to Arc 1600 via the valley’s scenic viewpoints
20 km · +1,170 m / -1,700 m
On this final day, we head up into the mountains before descending back down into the valley.
The route offers magnificent views of the valley and takes us closer to the great glaciers of the Tarentaise. A final day full of stunning scenery before returning to Arc 1600, then Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
End of the trip in Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
If the weather or mountain conditions change, I will adapt the route so that we can enjoy the trip in the best possible conditions.
