What is ski touring?
Ski touring is a mountain activity that allows you to explore off-piste terrain, both on the ascent and the descent. On the ascent, skis are fitted with climbing skins, and the bindings allow the heel to be released. On the descent, the bindings are locked so you can ski just like with traditional equipment.
This activity offers a unique experience of the winter mountains, but it requires thorough preparation and an understanding of the specific risks associated with snowy terrain.
What skill level is required?
It is recommended that you know how to ski properly downhill on various types of snow and feel comfortable in mountainous terrain.
Is safety equipment mandatory?
Safety in ski touring depends above all on preparation, analysis of conditions, and the group’s behavior.
On routes exposed to avalanche risk, each participant must have an avalanche transceiver, a shovel, and a probe, and know how to use them effectively. Training or regular practice in avalanche search techniques is strongly recommended. Off-piste gear is included in the tours.
Can you go ski touring alone?
This is not recommended. In the mountains during winter, conditions can change rapidly, and a fall or an avalanche can have serious consequences. Traveling in a group allows you to better manage emergency situations.
