Your questions
What is via ferrata ?
Via ferrata is an activity that sits between rock climbing and vertical hiking, following a secured route built into the rock face of a mountain. You’ll encounter suspension bridges, ladders, and climb using artificial holds while clipped into a safety cable that runs along the entire route!
What equipment do I need for via ferrata ?
To do via ferrata, you need: a harness, a lanyard with a shock absorber, and a properly fitted helmet. You can also wear gloves.👉 All equipment is provided if you go with a via ferrata guide!
Do I need special clothing?
No need to be a pro climber. Just wear comfortable sports clothes, hiking or trail shoes (for good grip), and a windbreaker or fleece depending on the weather. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and water are also your best friends!
Where can I do via ferrata?
You can find via ferrata routes in all mountain ranges: the Alps, Pyrenees, Jura, Corsica… At Evolution 2, we offer the best spots like Chamonix, Passy, Val d’Isère, Avoriaz, La Clusaz, and many more across the Alps!
What's the difference between via ferrata and rock climbing?
Via ferrata is easier and more beginner-friendly — no climbing skills needed. You follow a set route using fixed metal elements. In traditional rock climbing, you use your hands and feet to find natural holds and rely on ropes and belaying. Via ferrata = more fun, less technique, same amazing views!
What’s the minimum age for via ferrata?
Most routes are open to kids from 10 to 13 years old, depending on difficulty, with a minimum height of 1.40m to 1.50m. Each via ferrata has its own rules — always check before booking!
Can I do via ferrata if I have a fear of heights?
If you have serious vertigo, this might not be your thing 😅 But for light discomfort, guides will support you and some routes are less exposed. Ask us for advice!
Is via ferrata family-friendly?
Yes, some via ferrata routes are perfect for families from age 10, featuring escape routes and gradual difficulty! Once again, be sure to check the age and height requirements before participating!
How long does a via ferrata outing last?
Usually between 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the route and your pace
Should I book in advance?
Yes ! Spots are limited per guide. Booking ahead = peace of mind and no surprises!
