1. Skis and ski boots (the essential equipment)

A ski lesson obviously means skis! Your child should use skis adapted to their height and weight, preferably short and flexible to make learning easier. Along with that, comfortable ski boots are essential: neither too big nor too stiff, so they can be worn comfortably throughout the lesson.

👉 Evolution 2 tip: renting is ideal for a first ski holiday. The equipment is adjusted by professionals and regularly renewed. Our schools work with local rental shops, so don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations!

What about ski poles for a beginner child? For the very first lessons, poles are not necessary. Children first learn balance and natural gliding. Poles will come later.

2. Ski helmet: mandatory and essential

A ski helmet is essential for all children. It provides protection in case of a fall and must fit properly: neither too loose nor too tight. In fact, since this year, wearing a helmet has become mandatory on ski slopes in Italy. For ski lessons with Evolution 2, your child must wear a helmet.

👉 Evolution 2 tip: choose a helmet with an adjustment dial for an optimal fit.

3. Ski goggles: for clear vision and better skiing

To go with that nice helmet, choose a good pair of ski goggles. They protect your child’s eyes from the sun and the wind, helping to avoid glare and improve visibility. Be sure to try them on together with the helmet to avoid any gaps.

👉 Evolution 2 tip: if your child wears glasses, choose goggles that are compatible with prescription eyewear.

4. What clothing should your child wear for their ski lesson?

No secrets here: go for the 3-layer system!

  • First layer: breathable thermal underwear made from technical fabrics (avoid cotton).

  • Second layer: an insulating layer such as a fleece or a lightweight down jacket to keep warm.

  • Third layer: a protective outer layer with a waterproof and windproof ski jacket and trousers, featuring sealed seams and a hood.

And that’s it : the perfect outfit for a first ski lesson!

5. Gloves or mittens and ski socks!

Now it’s time to protect the extremities. Choose waterproof and insulated gloves or mittens. Keep in mind that mittens are often warmer for young children. A thin liner glove can also be useful in very cold weather. For socks, opt for proper ski socks: they should be knee-high and breathable.

👉 Evolution 2 tip: choose gloves or mittens with leashes (wrist straps) to avoid losing them.

6. Essential accessories not to forget

With all that sorted, don’t forget to bring:

  • A neck warmer, balaclava, or headband to protect the face and neck from the cold

  • Sunscreen, even on cloudy days, and a lip balm with SPF

  • Tissues

  • A small energy snack and some water
