Group Ski Lessons or Private Lessons: Which to Choose?

Evolution 2 group ski lessons for children on the slopes of Tignes

Group Ski Lessons

This is the ideal option for learning while having fun. Groups are formed by level, which encourages motivation and progress. It's also a great choice for children, who make friends and gain confidence skiing together.
Choose this if: you want an affordable, sociable and progressive option, or if your children are discovering skiing.

Private Ski Lessons

With a ski instructor all to yourself (or your family), the lesson is 100% tailored. The pace, terrain and goals are adapted to what you want.
Choose this if: you want to improve quickly, fix your technique, reach the next level (off-piste, moguls, carving), ski as a family with mixed abilities, or simply prefer personnalised coaching.

Combine both ! A group lesson for the team spirit, and one or two private lessons to take your skiing up a notch.

Choosing Your Child's Ski Level

Choosing Your Child's Ski Level

This is the most important step for your child to enjoy skiing and make progress. A level that's wrongly assessed can discourage them, or put them in difficulty. A few guidelines to help you choose:

  • Beginner: From Yétison to Yéti 1: for children who have never skied before or have only skied for a few hours. They learn the basics of balance, stopping and gliding. They then become comfortable on easy slopes and learn to stop and turn independently.
  • Intermediate: From Yéti 2 to Super Yéti: skiers become more confident and comfortable on the slopes, link turns together and start learning parallel skiing. Towards the end of this level, they discover red and black runs.
  • Advanced: From Yéti Rider to Junior Academy 3: for very confident skiers who are comfortable on red and black runs. They refine their technique, discover powder skiing and learn to adapt to all types of snow conditions.

Our advice: Be honest about your child’s actual level and avoid overestimating their abilities. It is better for them to be in a group where they feel comfortable and confident. Take their previous ski season into account: after a year without skiing, they may need a little refresher on the basics. Also consider their confidence and motivation, not just their technical ability. If in doubt, ask our ski schools for advice.
