How to start is ski touring ?

Starting out in ski touring is accessible to anyone with a good command of alpine skiing and a decent level of fitness. If you love adventure, nature, and want to venture off the beaten path, ski touring is for you. To begin, it’s recommended to take a ski touring course with Evolution 2, where our certified instructors will teach you the basics, including how to use climbing skins, ascent techniques, and how to manage your energy on varied terrain.

Our ski touring outings are tailored for beginners, with specially selected routes to help you discover this activity safely. With personalized guidance, you’ll learn how to handle the equipment and move efficiently in the mountains. Ski touring is perfect for those seeking freedom and a close connection with nature.

What equipment do you need for ski touring ?

To safely practice ski touring, it's essential to have the right equipment. At Evolution 2, we provide you with safety gear, including an avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe. You’ll also need:

  • Ski touring skis: Equipped with specific bindings that allow the heel to be released during ascents.
  • Climbing skins: Essential for grip during climbs, they attach under the skis to prevent slipping backward.
  • Ski touring boots: Lighter and more flexible than alpine ski boots.
  • Telescopic poles: Adjustable in length, they are useful for both ascents and descents, providing good support.
  • Backpack: Choose a lightweight pack with straps to attach your skis and enough space to carry water, extra clothing, and safety equipment.

Friendly and professional welcome, adorable teacher and educator (Antoine, if you can hear me 😂) we loved learning hiking skiing and conversions! At the top also the walks off the Batrus trails in snowshoes. This allowed us to see this station which we know well in another light (with my 2 children of 10 and 13 years and my husband).

Beginner

You have never skied, or only a few hours, skiing is brand new. The objective of the week is to evolve in autonomy in snowplough turns on green slopes.

Beginner or "Learn to turn" courses

Intermediate

You have already done 1 to 2 weeks of skiing, you are going down the easy green and blue slopes. You are autonomous on the ski lifts.

Intermediate 1 / Class 1 / Level 1 or Perfect Parallel Green / Level Green

Intermediate

You have 2 to 4 weeks of skiing, you ski on blue slopes in parallel, you know how to skid, and pass on small movements of ground.

Intermediate 2 / Class 2 / Level 2, or Perfect Parallel Beu / Level Blue

Intermediate

You have been skiing for several years and are able to ski parallel on red slopes. You want to perfect your parallel turn in all terrain and ski safely on black slopes.

Class 3, or Perfect Parallel Red / Level Red
