Running on snow: how to get started

Running on snow requires a few adjustments to fully enjoy the experience. The key is to adopt a shorter, lighter stride to maintain balance on slippery ground. Winter trail shoes with good grip or detachable spikes will help you gain both safety and comfort. Finally, dress in light, breathable layers to stay warm without overheating. With these tips, every step in the snow becomes a real pleasure!

Here, there’s no room for improvisation. Cold, snow, and ice demand the right gear:

  • Winter trail running shoes with strong grip (spikes or soles designed for snow).

  • Technical layered clothing: a breathable base layer, an insulating mid-layer, and a windproof, water-repellent outer layer.

  • Essential accessories: hat or headband, gloves, neck warmer, and sunglasses (yes, the glare on snow can be intense on sunny days).

  • Safety and comfort: a headlamp if you run early or late, and of course… your good mood!

We’ll see you on Saturday, January 24th in Tignes with Evolution 2 to take part in the Frozen Lake Races, at 2100 m altitude, starting from 7:30 am. Finisher medals for all participants, and prizes and medals for the top 3 winners in each category.
